A solar and battery system designed around how you live
No two homes use energy in quite the same way. The right system for your property will depend on much more than the amount of available roof space.
We consider when and how you use electricity, the shape and orientation of your roof, your current energy tariff and the changes you may make in the future. This allows us to recommend a system that is properly suited to your home rather than relying on a standard package.
Your design can account for:
- Your annual and daily electricity use
- Roof size, orientation and shading
- Electric vehicles and charging requirements
- Heat pumps and other high-energy appliances
- Smart import and export tariffs
- Partial or whole-home backup
- Future battery or solar expansion
Our aim is to help you invest in the system that best meets your priorities—not simply the largest system that can fit.
What would you like your system to achieve?
Use more of your own solar energy
Solar panels often generate the most electricity during the middle of the day, when household demand may be relatively low. A correctly sized battery can store surplus production for use later in the evening or overnight.
Keep important circuits running
A standard solar or battery system will normally switch off during a power cut. When backup is important, we can design a suitable partial or whole-home backup arrangement to maintain selected circuits or wider household supplies during an outage.
Prepare your home for the future
Electric vehicles, heat pumps, air conditioning and home working can substantially change how a property uses electricity. We consider these future requirements during the design stage so that your system remains useful as your household evolves.
Residential energy solutions
Solar design is a complicated process when done right.
A well-designed solar PV system can reduce electricity imports and provide renewable energy for your home for decades. We assess your available roof areas, orientation, shading and expected household demand before recommending the panel layout, inverter arrangement and system size.
We talk you through the process, providing information and answering your questions to determine which inverter and panels best fit your needs, while advising on the roof spaces you should consider utilising.
Our approach also considers the appearance of the array, equipment warranties, roof condition and how cables can be routed neatly through the property. Finally, our pre-commencement roof surveys provide peace of mind that your home and roof are suitable for solar panel installation

Battery storage is a great way to increase your energy security
The installation of home battery storage is becoming more and more popular as it's one of the best ways homeowners can increase solar self-consumption. Battery storage allows you to retain more of the electricity generated by your solar panels and use it when your home needs it.
A battery can also charge from the grid during cheaper off-peak periods, helping households reduce the amount of electricity purchased at more expensive times. This is why battery storage is not just for homes with solar panels, as it can also help those without them decrease their monthly bills by utilising the right smart energy tariffs.
We size battery storage around your actual electricity profile, solar generation and tariff strategy rather than just selecting capacity based on household size alone.
Explore Battery Storage
Keep your home running even during power outages
For households seeking greater energy security, solar generation and battery storage can be combined with appropriate backup equipment. Depending on the system and electrical arrangement, backup can be designed to support selected essential circuits or a larger proportion of the home.
We will explain what each option can and cannot power, how long the available battery energy may last and what happens when solar generation is low.
Roof and array design
This is an important first step! We consider the different orientations, roof pitches, shading, roof coverings and planning considerations, as they can all affect the most appropriate panel layout.
Our general advice is to maximise the total output from your available roof space for the best possible cost. However, this is not as simple as more panels, more output. The flexibility to choose between different panel sizes and efficiencies is what allows bespoke system installers like us to truly maximise your roof space!
Where appearance is particularly important, we can explore all-black panels, in-roof mounting and discreet array arrangements.
Household energy use
Annual consumption is only part of the picture. We also consider when electricity is being used, whether anyone is home during the day and which appliances create the highest demand.
Creating a comprehensive picture of your annual and daily usage helps us estimate how solar energy will flow through the home and whether battery storage is likely to provide meaningful additional value.
Having a clear picture of your daily usage also allows us to design your system around recommended tariffs which can help maximise your bill savings!
Appropriate battery sizing
The largest battery does not automatically provide the best financial result.
We compare likely daily surplus generation, evening demand, winter usage and available tariff options to recommend battery capacities that suit the way your household operates.
By offering scaleable battery solutions we can help ensure your battery system can grow to match any changes in your energy usage! Whether you are considering an EV, ASHP or AC in the near future, your system will be able to expand to keep up!
Equipment selection
Different panels, inverters and batteries have different strengths. These may include appearance, warranty length, monitoring, backup capability, expansion options and compatibility with complex roof layouts.
We explain the relevant advantages and limitations so that you understand why particular equipment has been recommended – there is no blind faith with our systems!
Installation quality
The visual finish of an installation matters, particularly in a high-quality home.
Before work begins, we consider where the inverter, batteries and isolators will be positioned, how cables will travel through the property and how the equipment can remain accessible for future maintenance.
If you are worried about the disruption, rest assured that we will work with you to find a solution you are happy with!
Your Zion Energy Experience
We aim to Provide Excellent Service from Start to Finish. All of our installations follow the same process. To help you know what to expect, we have broken it down for you below. Our service is a simple 3-step process: survey and proposal, installation, and aftercare.
The first step is a call or site visit with you!
We want to work with you to design a system that fits your unique energy needs. During this time, we will answer all your questions so that you feel you can make an informed decision.
Next, we put together some comprehensive proposals
Following our discussion, we will design a range of proposals, each with detailed breakdowns, enabling you to compare the various options and see what works best for you. These proposals provide details on:
- System cost
- Payback period
- Monthly savings
- Proposed tariffs
- Equipment supplied
- Warranties
Your finalised proposal
Once you have had some time to review, we will contact you to talk through the options and put together a final proposal. At this point, if we haven't already, we will come and complete a site survey.
Ready to start saving!
Once you choose to go ahead, and we have the paperwork signed, we can book an installation date.
Your installation timeline
Most installations take a day or two for the roofers and the electrician to complete their work. So you will be benefiting from solar in no time at all.
A dedicated point of contact
During the work, one of our installation managers will be on hand to answer any questions you have.
A Guide to your new system
Once the work is completed, one of the engineers will explain to you how your system works and go through any relevant apps.
Our Service doesn't stop after your installation
Following your installation you will receive a handover pack containing all the documentation and information you will need.
Solar panel and battery systems are what we call 'fit and forget'. This means that once they are installed there isn't much you need to do for them to perform just as intended. We will support you through the process of finding a great energy tariff to ensure you make the most of the system you have.
In the unlikely case that there are any issues, you can rest at ease knowing that we are here and happy to help.
