Residential Solar PV & Battery in Peasmarsh

This home in Peasmarsh had a small pitch roof and two flat dormer roofs. By maximising all the available roof spaces, we were able to install a 4.65 kWp system with a predicted annual output of 3’244 kWh. Check out the details below to learn more about the flat roof installation and how we mitigated the surrounding shade.

The Solar PV & Battery System

This is an overview of the Solar PV system installed for this Godalming Home.

We installed 10 x 465W Aiko Neostar 2S Solar panels, 3 on the south-facing pitched roof and 7 across the two flat roofs. Since these roofs are shaded, we installed Tigo TS-4 optimisers under each panel.

This 4.65 kWp system is estimated to produce 3’244 kWh annually through its FoxESS 5.0kW Hybrid Inverter which is paired with 10.48kWh EP12 Battery. It is typical to undersize your inverter; however, in this case, we wanted the higher output offered by the 5kW model.

The Tigo Optimisers provide the homeowner with panel level optimisation and monitoring helping maximise output and spot any issues quicker.

A Detailed Look At Their System

One of the most important steps of this flat roof solar installation is the structural survey, as it is important to ensure that the roof structure can take the weight of the panels and the ballast mounting system. The weight of the ballast system is important to get right, as wind uplift needs to be accounted for correctly!

Flat Roof System Design

For this installation, we decided to use a Van Der Valk flat roof system. ValkPro+ uses a carefully engineered ballast solar panel mounting principle. Stability is achieved through a combination of system geometry, wind deflectors and calculated ballast placement – without roof penetration. That’s one of the key advantages of the VDV ballast system; since the system doesn’t require fixing points, the weathertightness of the roof membrane is not affected.
Once the required ballast is calculated using the VDV design tool, the next step is to get a structural sign-off for the additional weight of the system. For this, we take detailed measurements of the structural timbers and send all the details off to a specialist structural engineer to ensure the installation can proceed.

FoxESS System

FoxESS offer a great range of products at an affordable price point. Due to the shading on the property, the solar generation during the winter months was predicted to be very slow. Therefore, the 11 kWh battery storage provided by the EP12 will be used heavily during these months by load-shifting the demand to off-peak hours when electricity is cheapest. If you would like to learn more about how you can maximise the savings from your home battery storage, check out our blog here.

We also installed an EV charger for the customer who recently decided to get an electric vehicle. For this installation, we went with the FoxESS A-series 7.3kW EV charger as it can connect seamlessly with the inverter, allowing the car to be charged directly from excess solar generation. Having their solar PV, battery storage and EV all controllable through a single app keeps things simple.

What They Had To Say

I had a solar array and battery installed by Zion Energy in mid-2026. Ezra was phenomenal – giving a great deal of support and guidance in the early planning stages (even before I was committed – while I was still considering various options/quotes). He was knowledgeable and helpful – and able to offer an effective system for my property at a very competitive price! Throughout the installation process, he was careful and considerate, working conscientiously to deliver the system on time. I couldn’t be happier with the work undertaken by Zion Energy. I would thoroughly recommend them to anyone considering a solar installation of their own!
