Residential Solar in Godalming

Check out the solar PV and battery installation we completed for Edward and Kate in Godalming.

They currently have a 92% saving on their energy bills through a combination of free solar production, battery storage and the utilisation of the Octopus Energy Flux smart tariffs. Check out how we helped them achieve this below.

Their Solar PV and Battery System

Solar and Battery equipment installed in Godalming

This is an overview of the Solar PV system we installed on this Godalming home.

We installed 8 x 500W Eurener Solar panels on their South facing roof and protected them with bird mesh. We used these high output panels to maximise the power generated as they didn’t have much available roof space!

This 4kWp system is estimated to produce 3’801 kWh annually through their 3.68kW FoxESS Gen 2 Hybrid inverter reducing their bills by close to 92%.

This saving was possible thanks to the addition of the EP11 FoxESS battery with 10.32 kWh of usable storage and by taking advantage of the Smart Export Guarantee (SEG).

To complete their “going green” journey we installed a Zappi EV Charger.

How much they save with solar

The system we designed for Edward and Kate enabled them to save up to 92% on their current energy bills… and here is how!Graph's showing the bill savings made by solar PV and battery installation in Godalming.

  1. Maximising the amount of free energy they were producing.
  2. Maximise the money earned from excess solar generation.

1. Maximising Free Power Production

The best way to maximise your savings with solar is by making sure you take advantage of as much of your roof space as you can. Here in Godalming, there was only a small amount of available south-facing roof space, so we maximised the output using the largest output panels we could. The 500W Eurener Nexa panels offer a 30-year warranty, so they were a great choice here.

2. Maximising Money Earned from Export

Edward and Kate had relatively low annual usage at only 2300kWh. Therefore, we knew that the most important thing was to maximise the money they earned from the power they were exporting. A bit of research will show that the best export rates are available with “time of use” tariffs like Octopus Flux, which offers a peak export rate of 23p/kwh during the hours of 4-7 pm, so this is what we recommend. However, if we wanted to store excess generation for use at night and to export during peak hours, we knew that we would need ample battery storage, hence why we chose the FoxESS EP11 with 10.32kWh of battery storage. This large battery also allows this Godalming couple to “load-shift” during the winter months by charging their battery for cheap during off-peak hours and using it to supplement the reduced solar generation.

What they had to say

Here is what Edward and Kate had to say about their Zion Energy Experience.

All aspects of the installation of Solar panels, from initial contact, survey, quotation and installation were carried out in a timely and professional manner. Ezra was a pleasure to deal with and happily answered all my questions and provided comprehensive answers as required. His colleagues were equally friendly and worked effectively as a team.

The commissioning of the system was also completed without delay. Ezra went the extra mile to provide comprehensive aftercare and was also helpful in setting up the apps on our phones. I am very confident that if we have any further questions, Ezra will promptly address them. I also received a memory stick with a complete set of all the relevant certificates and documents, which I consider to be an excellent handover.

Edward and Kate.
