Their Solar PV and Battery System

This is an overview of the Solar PV system we installed on this Surrey home.

We installed 14 x 425W Jinko Solar panels equally split across South and East facing roofs protected with bird mesh.

This 5.95 kWp system is estimated to produce 4’627 kWh annually through their 5.0kW GivEnergy Gen 3 Hybrid inverter reducing their bills by close to 90%.

This saving was possible thanks to the addition of a 5.2kW GivEnergy battery and by taking advantage of the Smart Export Guarantee (SEG).

To complete their “going green” journey we installed one of the new GivEnergy EV chargers.

How much they save with solar

The system we designed for John and Sue enabled them to save up to 90% on their current energy bills… and here is how!Graph's showing the bill savings made by solar PV and battery installation in Guildford.

  1. Maximising the amount of free energy they were producing.
  2. Maximise the amount of free energy they were using.
  3. Help them take advantage of one of the great green energy tariffs available.

1. Maximising Free Power Production

The best way to maximise your savings with solar is by making sure you take advantage of as much of your roof space as you can. Since the space available is usually the limiting factor, our general advice is to put as many panels on your roof as you can. This is exactly what we did for John and Sue.

2. Maximising Free Power Usage

There isn’t much point in generating a ton of free solar power if we don’t use it. Adding battery storage to your solar PV system is the best way to increase the self-consumption of your solar generation. This is a key step, as every kWh of solar energy that you use to power your home saves you 26-30p, while even on the best export tariffs you can only earn 15p.

For all our customers, we help them find the correct battery solution to maximise the amount of energy they use. Too small a battery and they would lose out… too large a battery and they would have overspent on capacity that they don’t need. You can check out our video and blog explaining how to size battery storage here.

3. Maximise Saving Using the Right Tariffs

The final step was to provide advice and support to find the best energy tariff for them. This is the most complicated step, but the benefits are huge when done right.

What they had to say

Here is what John and Sue had to say about their Zion Energy Experience.

Having obtained one estimate for solar panels, we approached Zion Energy for a comparative quote and were delighted to find that Ezra could provide a higher specification for the same outlay.

Ezra was highly professional throughout, providing a worked example of the savings we could expect to make based on our current consumption and then personally supervising the installation from start to finish. Our MCS Certificate arrived without a hitch, and we found that our electricity supplier, Octopus, can give us a favourable import/export tariff owing to installing our GivEnergy battery, which Ezra had suggested.

At completion, Ezra presented us with an impressive and personalised Handover Pack. Overall, we have thoroughly enjoyed working with Zion Energy and are highly satisfied with the product – very happy to recommend.

Sue and John.
